Personal development coaching, life coaching and careers/executive coaching at our Glasgow centre
We are pleased to offer personal development coaching, life coaching, careers / executive coaching at First Psychology Centre, Glasgow.
What is coaching?
Coaching is a process whereby a client and a coach focus on a specific issue, set goals in relation to it and then work towards achieving these goals in a way that overcomes any difficulties or challenges encountered. The role of the coach is to provide motivation, support and substantial psychological experience to enable the client to actually accomplish what they wish (not always as easy as it seems!). Coaching differs from counselling, psychotherapy or CBT in that it is not designed to address situations whereby a client is encountering substantial emotional distress.
What is the difference between the types of coaching you offer?
The concept of coaching is derived from high performance sports, in which athletes / players are coached to develop skills and enhance performance. Coaching is now employed more generally by people similarly wishing to develop / maximise their potential at work (often called developmental or executive coaching, sometimes career coaching) or in life generally (life coaching). The process is often the same as in sports coaching, namely identifying specific goals or targets (often easier to say than do!), developing a plan, overcoming barriers and then achieving them. Invariably clients leave a coaching session with some particular 'task' to do.
Coaching by a psychologist
One of the key challenges many people face in achieving goals is overcoming personal 'demons', such as fears, worries and previous bad experiences. Psychologists specialising in coaching are particularly skilled in managing these aspects of the coaching process, and are therefore able to provide a strong focus on the psychological aspects of the coaching process. In sports coaching, such aspects are often termed 'the inner game' and are now seen as one of the key differences between success and failure.
Areas of coaching for individuals
Our psychological coaching tends to focus around the following three main areas. (Please click each link for details of each.)
Coaching courses
We have a number of coaching courses available which focus on specific common issues that people often seek coaching for. These are offered on a one-to-one basis for individual self-funding clients and consist of five sessions with a psychological coach. Coaching courses are offered as a block and must be paid for before the first session is scheduled. For further details visit our coaching courses page.
