About Heather :
Works as Psychological Counsellor at First Psychology Centre, Glasgow.
She has particular experience in working with: individuals going through life transitions; carers and adults with long-term health issues such as chronic pain, cancer, MS, chronic fatigue, TBI, and stroke; individuals with post-natal depression; and individuals with relationship difficulties.
In addition, she specialises in working with people with a history of childhood abuse, perfectionism, and low self-esteem.
Heather's way of workingHeather uses a variety of evidence-based therapies in her work with clients including Counselling, Psychotherapy, Cognitive-Behaviour Therapy (CBT), Mindfulness-Based Cognitive Therapy (MBCT); Person-Centred Therapy; Compassion Focused Therapy; Acceptance and Commitment Therapy; Solution Focused Therapy; Trauma Focused CBT; Behavioural Activation; and Psycho Education. She works in a collaborative way with clients in order to determine the approach that best suits their needs and goals for therapy.
Heather's background and trainingHeather has experience of working in a number of different settings including within general adult mental health and clinical health settings in the voluntary sector. She has also worked as a disability and autism support worker in the UK, Sri Lanka and the USA, specialising in working with individuals who have aphasia or physical difficulties as a result of a stroke, as well as those with a diagnosis of autism or Asperger's who are pursuing higher education. Heather has experience in using British Sign Language up to level 3 and working with culturally deaf populations.
Heather has a Postgraduate Certificate in Counselling Skills (University of Strathclyde) and a BSc (hons) in Psychology (Glasgow Caledonian University). She is eligible for the award of MSc in Psychological Counselling and is presently in the advanced stages of doctoral training in counselling psychology (trainee counselling psychologist) at Glasgow Caledonian University. She is a graduate member of the British Psychological Society (BPS).
