Exercise therapy for psychological health and well-being

Exercise can be used as a therapy to improve mental health and wellbeing. Regular exercise is a great way to maintain a good state of mental health, but you might be surprised to hear it has also been shown to help people with alcohol problems, depression and schizophrenia.

Exercise not only releases endorphins into the body which make us feel good, but it also boosts self-esteem and allows us to feel a sense of empowerment over our own wellbeing.

The great thing about exercise is that, unlike drugs, it doesn't have any negative side-effects. However it is important to ensure you are safe to take up an exercise programme and if in any doubt consult your GP first.
