First Psychology Glasgow – counselling | CBT | psychotherapy | coaching

We are happy to work with any individual or couple who wishes to use our counselling, CBT, psychotherapy, coaching and other psychological services. We also take referrals from health and medical professionals, organisations, businesses and voluntary agencies.

Booking an appointment

The first step to booking an appointment with First Psychology Glasgow is to give us a call, drop us an email or use our quick enquiry form to get in touch. We will then discuss with you what you are looking for and find the right practitioner for you. You can read more about our practitioners here. We’ll send you an email confirming the appointment for your initial session and include a link to further information about what to expect.

The initial session

All clients attend for a no-obligation initial session with their chosen practitioner (charged at the usual rate). This session is to explore your hopes and goals for the therapy/coaching and to agree a ‘plan’ to help meet these. During this session, the practitioner will explain a bit more about how it all works and answer any questions you may have. We are all very familiar with how strange or uncomfortable coming to see a psychologist, counsellor/psychotherapist, CBT therapist or coach can be and we will do our best to put you at ease.

Although the vast majority of clients go on to work with the practitioner they meet in the initial session, we do understand that finding the right person and approach is vital. Therefore on occasion, we might suggest you meet with a different practitioner if we feel you may be better suited to his/her way of working. Similarly, we would be delighted to advise you further if the practitioner you meet initially isn’t the one for you.

Contract with your practitioner

Once you are happy to progress, you will normally agree a ‘contract’ with your practitioner. This is not a legal document, but one designed to set out the terms and expectations of the therapy or coaching you are undertaking. The contract normally includes things such as the fee you will pay, issues of confidentiality, etc. It would also include the number of sessions you have agreed to start with, which we normally suggest as six, followed by a review.

Of course, you are entirely free to stop coming at any time, so the contract is not binding! However, we would ask you to give us the required notice of any intention not to return and also suggest you attend for a final session as sometimes therapy or coaching can be difficult and it is good to end it in a way that is as helpful to you as possible.

Cancellations

In common with most professional services our practitioners, are self-employed and therefore need to manage their diaries efficiently. We operate a strict cancellation policy requiring all clients to give us a minimum of two business days’ (48 hours) notice of any cancelled session. The full fee is payable if adequate notice is not given.
